Tattoos used to be a permanent thing, much to the anguish of those who had one that turned out bad or got a few when they were younger and now wish they hadn’t.

However, there are treatments options available to have them removed without having something as drastic as surgery or skin grafts. One such treatment is laser therapy.

There is a lot of reason for having your tattoo removed. You may have one in a noticeable area that is preventing you from getting a job for example or a tattoo that brings back a painful reminder from the past.

Whatever your reason, you don’t have to live your unwanted tattoo any longer!

What Makes a Tattoo Permanent?
The tattoo needle makes a puncture in the skin that allows the ink to flow into the dermis. What this essentially does is create a wound.

Our body then tries to heal this wound by sending more white blood cells to the area. Those cells attempt to engulf the ink to remove the particle from the wound.

However, the pigment in the ink is too large for them to remove, causing the cells and pigment ink to remain where they are.

Process of Tattoo Removal
With a laser tattoo removal treatment, we are essentially using the same process. However, a laser is used and the process is much quicker.

The laser light targets the ink using pulses of light that are highly concentrated. This works to break the tattoo pigment down into much smaller particles. These particles can then be picked up by the white blood cells to flush it out of your system.

The process itself can take between 5 to 15 treatments, depending on the size and pigments used for your tattoo.

By repeating treatments, the laser can penetrate more deeply, allowing for the ink to be broken down much quicker.

Benefits of Laser Tattoo Removal
Having laser tattoo removal holds a number of benefits, mainly its non-surgical nature.

Because laser light is being used it leaves the skin cells that are healthy alone. This makes the potential for any scarring very low.

Laser removal effectively works to remove your tattoo with no lasting effects, such as you would find with other methods of removal. The recovery time is very minimal as well. You will need to keep the area protected from UV light for a few days and there can be some tenderness and redness to the treated area. However, this subsides within a few days.

Laser tattoo removal allows for very precise removal, so you can remove an entire tattoo or just a specific area and is one of the safest way available to remove your tattoo. There are very few undesirable effects and low infection risk.

FAQ

During a treatment, you will feel a tingling or a pinprick sensation. The discomfort is very minor, however, a topical anesthetic can be used to numb the area.

There are rarely any cases where a tattoo could not be completely removed. The number of sessions required will depend on the condition of your skin and the tattoo itself.

Some ink compounds can be harder to remove than others, so more treatments would be necessary. A treatment can last between 30 to 40 minutes, with repeated treatments every 3 to 4 weeks to give the skin time to heal properly.

Your tattoo needs to be healed fully before a removal treatment can be done. This usually takes up to 8 weeks. This is because your skin is very sensitive after having a tattoo and a laser treatment may harm the sensitive skin.

The area will be sensitive and it’s important to keep it protected from UV rays for the first 2 to 3 weeks.

It’s advised that you use both sunblock and a moisturizer during this time.
